Mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis)

mytilus3The mussel is a marine organism that belongs to the family Mytilidae, which in turn comes under the subclass of pteriomorph bivalves. Its most characteristic species is called Mytilus galloprovincialis. It is divided into many varieties depending on its shape, size and place of origin, and can be found in all Greek seas. It is regarded as a palatable food of great nutritious value and is therefore cultivated in mussel farms.
